Roger H. Rea, 67
Roger H. Rea, 67, of Red Oak, passed away Friday, Dec. 17, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Care Center after an extended illness.
Roger Howard Rea was born March 16, 1943, in Montgomery County, the son of Marshall and Roberta (Bates) Rea. He was raised in Montgomery County and graduated from Wales Lincoln High School in 1960. Roger was united in marriage to Phyllis Buehler in 1963 at the Hawthorne United Methodist Church. Roger farmed northwest of Red Oak from 1964 until 1990. He owned and operated Nothin Fancy Lounge from 1993 until 1997 and R & R trucking from 1998 until 2003. Roger was a long time member of the Red Oak Elks Lodge, a member of the Stratton United Methodist Church, and during his farming years was named Jaycee “Outstanding Young Farmer of The Year” in 1968.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his children: Rhonda Rea-Baker and husband Jerry of Red Oak; Sheila Weeks and husband Eric of Spencer; and Brett Rea and wife Christy of Red Oak; grandchildren: Zoey and Macy Baker of Red Oak; Delaney and Carson Weeks of Spencer; and Chase, Caden, and Cooper Rea of Red Oak; sisters: Connie Figley and husband Jack of Ankeny, and Judy Bookwalter of Urbandale; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation with the family was held on Dec. 20, 2010, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. A memorial fund is being established in Roger’s name.
