RO SB demolishes FM

The Red Oak softball team finished the game with Fremont-Mills in just four innings, claiming a 16-1 victory.
Lexi Johnson led the team, going two for three with a single and her first high school homerun. “I was just trying to make contact,” Lexi said. “I was just as surprised as everyone else. It felt good.”
Chloe Johnson was two for two, both singles, was walked and hit by pitch. Kamryn Wendt was three for four.
Zoey Welter recorded the win, pitching all four innings and giving up two hits while striking out five.
JV
The Red Oak JV team fell 6-5 to Fremont-Mills.
“Our energy was low to start the game, and it cost us early,” Red Oak coach Tristin Johnson said. “We played better after the game got going and had fewer errors than we have had in the past.”
Emily Peterson and Tory Carrick had two hits each, all singles.
Lewis Central
The Tigers hosted Lewis Central in a double header, dropping both games.
The Tigers fell 10-0 in the first game in five innings.
In the second game, Lewis Central out-scored Red Oak 14-5.
C. Johnson hit a two-run double in the second game along with connecting twice in the first game.
Maddie Wendt also scattered four hits in the two games.
“We made some errors, but played well for the most part,” Coach Johnson said.
Lewis Central
The Tigers fell to Thomas Jefferson 16-6 in six innings.
“We didn’t play our best game tonight,” Coach Johnson said. “We started the game well, but ran into a defensive lapse in the fifth inning. They hit it well in the inning, but we didn’t help ourselves out much.”
Kam Buntrock hit a two-run homerun to lead the Tigers offensively.
C. Johnson hit two singles and a double.
JV
Red Oak JV got its first win, taking down Thomas Jefferson 9-0.
“They played well in the field and had a few hits,” Coach Johnson said. “We were very patient at the plate, which led to a few walks.”
Kyndal Kells grabbed a double and Peterson hit two singles for the Tigers.

Boys
The Tigers fell to Lewis Central 14-1 in six innings.
“Six of our pitchers saw action on the mound,” head coach Mark Erickson said. “They combined for nine walks and nine strikeouts.”
Mitch Johnson started the game, with Jake Echternach, Ryan Messinger, Carter Bruce, Asher Hinshaw, and Colton Kinnison all throwing.
Hinshaw hit a double and Echternach and Zac Guerra each had a single.
Hinshaw scored the single run in the fourth inning.
Red Oak Tournament
The Red Oak baseball tournament scheduled for Saturday was delayed due to playing conditions. Because of the changes, the tournament ended with Red Oak playing just Treynor and Missouri Valley.
The Tigers took the game with Treynor to nine innings, but fell short 9-8.
“We had one inning in which we struggled to make plays,” Erickson said. “Our players fought hard to come back to tie the game and send it to extra innings in the seventh. Our at bats continue to improve with each game. This team believes it can play with anyone when we put all aspects of the game together.”
Hinshaw started the game on the mound, and went 3 2/3 innings walking three, striking out six, and surrendering three earned runs. Messinger pitched a scoreless three innings of relief with two strikeouts, and Johnson finished the game, taking the loss while giving up only one earned run.
Carlson went two for two at the plate, hitting a double and scoring two runs to lead the Tigers offense.
Johnson scored twice, and Bruce, Messinger, Hinshaw, and Kinnison each added a run.
Missouri Valley
The boys earned their first win of the season defeating Missouri Valley 7-1, with the win going to Bruce.
Bruce threw five innings with one strikeout, and Echternach pitched two innings of relief, striking out one and walking one.
Bruce and Johnson recorded two hits at the plate with Echternach, Messinger, Carlson, Hinshaw, and Guerra each recording a hit.
“This was our most complete game of the season,” Erickson said. “We pitched well, had good at bats, and made the majority of our routine plays.”
Kinnison plated twice to lead the Tigers. Bruce, Messinger, Carlson, Johnson, and Echternach each added a run.
