Regional Volleyball Preview: 1A Region 3 Semifinals

Here's a preview of the semifinal matches for Region 3, which takes place Friday night.

Stanton Viqueens vs. Nishnabotna Blue Devils @ Fremont-Mills High School

This will be the fifth time Stanton faces Nishnabotna this season. Stanton has won all four matches against the Blue Devils this season.

Their most recent win against Nishnabotna came at the Nishna Invite Oct. 8.

Stanton looks to make their third straight appearance to the regional final. Last season, the Viqueens knocked off Bedford to reach their first state tournament.

Both teams have picked up solid wins thus far this postseason. Stanton defeated Walnut in the opening round and Riverside in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Nishnabotna defeated Essex and Fremont-Mills to reach the semifinals.

Jody Shough is the player to watch for Nishnabotna. Shough had nine kills in the win over Fremont-Mills Tuesday night.

Rachel Sorensen and Carmen Subbert will lead the attack for Stanton. Sorensen had 10 kills, while Subbert finished with 9, in the win over Riverside.

Corning vs. Lamoni @ Bedford High School

Corning pulled off one of the biggest upsets thus far in regionals with the win over Bedford Tuesday night.

Adalina Morales and Kelsey Roberts both bad big nights versus the Bulldogs. Morales finished with 10 kills, while Roberts had 14 assists and seven serving aces.

Lamoni meanwhile has a seven-match winning streak. Thus far, Lamoni has defeated Diagonal and Mount Ayr in regionals.

This will be the first time these two teams meet this season. Winner will play the winner of Stanton/Nishnabotna in the regional final Tuesday night in Corning.
