Regional volleyball notes: Essex, Griswold win, EM falls short

 The Essex Trojanettes advanced to the regional quarterfinals as they defeated South Page in the first round last Tuesday, 3-0.

Essex won the games 25-11, 25-11 and 25-9.

The Trojanettes had 20 kills in their win against South Page. Kym Graham led the way with nine kills out of 17 attack attempts and had two aces with 9-for-10 serving.

Regan Burns finished with seven kills out of 14 attack attempts. Burns had a big night serving for the Trojanettes as she was 11-for-12 with five aces. Skylar Ross also had five aces and was 9-for-11 serving.

Seana Perkins was responsible for all 20 of Essex’s assists in the South Page win.

The Trojanettes will now take on Griswold in the quarterfinals Tuesday in Griswold.

Sidney 3, East Mills 0

The East Mills volleyball season ended in the first round with a loss to the Sidney Cowgirls.

East Mills lost 25-20, 25-9 and 25-17 in a road match to Sidney, last Tuesday.

Jessie Doyle led the way for East Mills with eight kills and 18 digs. Emily Ray had five kills, nine digs and three blocks, while Kendra Croghan recorded three kills and 16 digs.

Elizabeth Walker had double-digits in digs and assists, finishing with 12 in both instances.

Emmy Duysen had 10 assists, five digs and six blocks (one solo).

Sidney advanced to the 1A Region 2 quarterfinals as they play Fremont-Mills in Tabor Tuesday night.

Griswold 3, Exira-EHK 0

Griswold opened the 1A regional tournament with a 3-0 win in Exira against Exira-EHK, last Tuesday.

Griswold won a close first game 26-24 and then won the next two 25-16 and 25-16.

Two Tiger players finished with double-digit kills in the win. Candice Howell led with 11 kills out of 22 attack attempts, while Kinzey Nicklaus finished with 10 out of 30 attempts.

Melodie Anstey recorded five kills, while Jessica Marshall and Marlia Rossell each had two.

Rossell led the team in assists with 14. Kayla Kirchhoff came close to double-digit assists, but had nine.

Griswold will play Essex in the quarterfinals. The match takes place Tuesday night in Griswold. The action starts at 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s winner plays the winner of Stanton/Bedford on Friday night in Stanton.
