Red Oak takes ninth at Treynor meet

 TREYNOR — In a nearly 20-team field, the Red Oak girls track team took ninth, while Griswold finished fifth at last Tuesday’s Cardette Relays at Treynor High School.

Red Oak had a score of 21, while Griswold finished with a 57. Treynor won the meet with 100 points. Woodbine took second and Fremont-Mills finished third.

Kate Walker had the only win in the Treynor meet for Red Oak in her only race. 

Walker won the 1,500 with a time of 5:08.23. The junior, who was pulling double-duty and played tennis earlier in the afternoon, finished ahead of Missouri Valley’s Alexis Cook by nearly 12 seconds. Alyx Flippin of Griswold took third with a 5:22.46 and Alyssa Wyman was fifth with a 5:31.48. Red Oak teammate Blake Bergren ran as she finished 13th with a time of 6:35.41.

Nikki Graber provided a strong finish for Red Oak in the 400-meter dash, by taking second with a time of 1:07.14. Graber edged out Griswold’s Payton Rush (1:07.23) at the finish line.

Red Oak had two points finishes in the relay races. The best finish came in the 4x400 when the team of Vanessa Pate, Graber, Mi chaela Buntrock and Megan Sands took fifth with a time of 4:35.14.

The other finish came in the sprint medley when Buntrock, Graber, Pate and Maysen Havener ran a 2:06.24 to take sixth.

Griswold’s Justine Freund took second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.40 seconds. She was less than a half second behind Fremont-Mills’ Kelsey Hurley. Freund also had a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.86 seconds.

Flippin and Wyman had other finishes for Griswold. Flippen was third in the 3,000 with a time of 11:58.22. Wyman was fourth in the 800 and ran a 2:37.69.

In the relay races, Griswold’s best finish came in the sprint medley when the team of Freund, Kayla Kirchhoff, Marquel Brunk and Melodie Anstey took third with a time of 2:02.02. Anstey had a fifth place finish individually in the long jump when she leapt 14’9”.

Essex

The Trojanettes had one points finisher during the Cardette Relays. Regan Burns finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 32’6”.

Timberwolf Invite

The Red Oak girls track team finished 13th at Thursday’s Timberwolf Invite, at Bedford High School.

Graber and Ashley Brower scored the points for Red Oak. Graber had a fifth place finish in the 400-meter dash, running a time of 1:08.1. Brower meanwhile was fifth in the 3,000 with a time of 13:24.7.

Griswold

The Griswold Tigers had the best finish at Thursday’s Timberwolf Invite as they took fourth with a score of 67 points.

The meet was moved to Bedford because of track renovations in Corning.

Flippin and Jackie Rush scored the most points in the meet for Griswold. Flippin had a third place finish in the 3,000 (12:30.8) and 1,500 (5:37.7) Rush meanwhile had a third place finish in the discus (97’4”) and shot put (32’11.50”). Mykenzie Rainey was second ahead of Rush in the shot put with a toss of 33’9.5”. Meanwhile, Candice Howell was third in the discuss with a throw of 95’5”.

Justine Freund meanwhile picked up points for Griswold as she got her best finish in the 100-meter hurdles, running a time of 17.7 seconds. Freund also finished fifth in the 100-meter dash and sixth in the 400-meter dash and 400-meter hurdles. Payton Rush was fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.0.

Griswold did pick up a win in the 4x800 relay. The team of Alyssa Wyman, Leah Lappe, Payton Rush and Bridget Maurer ran a time of 11:07.2.

Griswold was without distance runner Rebekah Topham for the meet, who was in Des Moines for the Drake Relays.

Stanton

The Vikings took seventh at the Timberwolf Invite with a score of 37 points.

It was the hurdlers once again leading the day for the Viqueens. The first win came in the shuttle hurdle relays when Logan Wagg, Macy Elwood, Lauren Stephens and Carmen Subbert ran a time of 1:10.25, beating out Fremont-Mills by more than a second. Subbert scored another win individually in the 100-meter hurdles when she held off Taryn Williams of Fremont-Mills by two-tenths of a second to run a time of 16.7 seconds.

Stanton meanwhile had a third place finish in the 4x200 (Subbert, Elwood, Moriah Kammerer and Avery Taylor running a time of 1:57.6) and fourth in the 4x100 (Taylor, Wagg, Elwood and Subbert running a 54.6).

Southwest Valley

The home team finished 10th at the Timberwolf Invite with a score of 22 points.

Sydney Maynes had the highlight individual finishes for Southwest Valley. She took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.3 seconds and was fourth in the 100-meter dash with  a time of 13.50 seconds, finishing just ahead of Griswold’s Justine Freund.

Kendra Top meanwhile had a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter race, placing ahead of Red Oak’s Brower and running a time of 13:00.
