Red Oak scores fourth win at AL tourney

 COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Red Oak softball team scored a win Saturday at the Abraham Lincoln tournament as they finished seventh.

Red Oak defeated Clarinda 4-2. The Tigers concluded the day of solid softball with the win against Clarinda, their fourth of the season.

Kamryn Buntrock and Hailey Fada were both 2-for-3 in the game.  Buntrock scored two runs. Sarah Behrens and Ashlee Young both went 1-for-3.

In the consolation semifinals, Red Oak lost 6-3 to Sioux City North. Red Oak rallied back late, but it wasn’t enough. Fada and Wendt were the leading hitters, going 2-for-3. Sydney Streicher, Behrens, Shelbie Perez and Alexis Wingfield were all 1-for-3.

They began the tournament with a 10-1 loss to Abraham Lincoln.

Red Oak vs. Denison-Schleswig

The Tigers were swept in a doubleheader Thursday night in Denison. They lost the first game 4-0 and the second 13-1 in three innings.

In the first game, Red Oak kept close, but couldn’t get runs across. Jasmine Forward led the way by going 2-for-3. Kamryn Buntrock, Shelbie Perez, Maddie Wendt and Ashlee Young all added hits to the effort.

In game two, Denison-Schleswig capitalized and took control.

Buntrock scored the only run for the Tigers, which came on a sacrifice fly by Perez.

Red Oak vs. Atlantic

The Tigers were swept in a doubleheader at Atlantic last Wednesday.

Red Oak lost the first game 14-4 in five innings and lost the second 4-0 in 4 1/2 innings.

The second game ran short because of lightning from severe weather in the area. Sarah Behrens and Hailey Fada both had hits in the second game for the Tigers.

In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Buntrock, Fada, Behrens and Perez all scored runs. Perez and Young knocked in two of those runs, while Emily Peterson knocked in the other two.

Red Oak vs. Glenwood

The Tigers began the week last Monday with losses at home to Glenwood. Red Oak lost the first game 15-0 and the second 15-4.

The Tigers jumped out to an early 3-1 lead in the first inning. The Rams responded by scoring three in the second to re-take the lead. Glenwood scored nine runs in the fifth inning to get the win.

Wendt was the leading hitter for Red Oak by going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Buntrock, Fada, Perez and Alexis Wingfield all went 1-for-3.

Red Oak was back in action Monday night when they took on Clarinda. Results weren’t available as of press time.

They play Creston twice this week, including Tuesday at Creston. The JV/varsity doubleheader starts at 5:30 p.m.

Senior night will be Thursday when they host Harlan as part of a doubleheader, which starts at 5:30 p.m.

Red Oak wraps up the regular season Friday when they host Creston. 

The game is re-scheduled from June 15. Because of the holiday, the JV/varsity doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
