Red Oak SB bats on fire leading off week
Alexa McCunn went three for four with two singles, a double, and four runs scored to lead the Tiger offense in the 15-9 win over Creston on Monday, June 10.
The Tigers held a 4-1 lead at the end of the first inning, but the Panthers came back and the score was knotted at 7 at the end of the third. The Panthers went ahead by one in the fourth, and added another run in the fifth, but the Tigers’ bats lit up in the home half and added five runs to take a 12-9 lead.
Kamryn Buntrock tripled and doubled, and recorded four RBI; and Chloe Johnson hit a double and earned four RBI.
Kamryn Wendt had four runs; Buntrock, Lexi Johnson, and Ashlee Young two runs apiece; Cami Porter added one run.
Zoey Welter struck out two with no walks in recording the win.
JV
Creston defeated Red Oak in JV action 28-12.
“It was a big hit fest during the game with scoring going back and forth until the last inning for Creston when their bats came alive and put up a 16 spot,” Tigers coach Tristin Johnson said. “Emma Bierbaum pitched well, but was facing a difficult Creston lineup that hammered the ball.”
Shenandoah
The Tigers were set to avenge the conference loss to Shenandoah from six days previous, but fell 8-7 with a Filly walk-off single.
“It was a tough one to lose,” Coach Johnson said. “We were up 7 to 4 going into the seventh, and Shenandoah hit some balls hard and got across enough runs. We played well for most of the game, just struggled early getting runs across, and couldn’t close the door.”
C. Johnson was three for four with two doubles and a single, and recorded three RBI and one run to lead the Tigers.
L. Johnson doubled and recorded two RBI, and Porter had two singles.
McCunn plated two runs; K. Wendt, Buntrock, Porter, and Tymberlee Bentley each added one run.
Welter took the loss and was unable to strike out any batters.
JV
Tigers JV fell to Shenandoah 5-0.
“We played well; they just had some timely hits and we hit it right at someone when we needed the hit,” Coach Johnson said. “We’re getting better each night and we will continue to do that each time we step on the field. Emma Bierbaum pitched well.”
Abraham Lincoln
The Tigers soundly defeated Abraham Lincoln on the road 7-1 on Thrusday.
“We played well defensively; had a few mistakes but got out of them, and we were able to shut it down in the sixth and seventh, which was good for us after letting it slip in the seventh last night,” Coach Johnson said.
Welter recorded the win.
C. Johnson recorded a single and a double with two runs scored; L. Johnson hit two singles and a triple, earned two RBI, and plated two runs; Maddie Wendt hit a single and double, and recorded two RBI.
JV
Red Oak defeated Abraham Lincoln 18-3 in JV aciton.
“We were solid out the gates with hitting the ball, and made some defensive plays that helped us on our way,” Coach Johnson said.
Abby Pendleton recorded a double play, while Bierbaum pitched a complete game.
“At the plate we had several walks that led us to getting some runs, but when it was across the plate, we made good contact and hit it hard.”
Lewis Central
The Tigers split with Lewis Central on Friday, winning game one 3-2, and falling 1-9 in the second game.
Red Oak falls to 7-8 on the season and hosts Sidney (7-8) tonight at 7:30 p.m.
