Red Oak loses to LeMars at substate
HARLAN — The Red Oak boys tennis team lost on Saturday to LeMars in the first round substate match, which was held in Harlan.
The Tigers lost to LeMars 5-1.
All but one of the LeMars players were seniors.
Matt Goracke had the lone win for Red Oak as he defeated Kent Hasselquist, 2-6, 6-2 and 6-2.
Pete Walker lost to Mike Ahlers 6-1 and 6-1.
Craig White won the first set over Eric Havey 6-2, but lost the next two sets 2-6 and 0-6.
Jordan Nelson fell to Keegan Driggs, 6-3 and 6-3.
Dakota White lost to Kolin Brooks 6-0 and 6-0.
Dixon Nelson split his sets with Aaron Ruden, but the match wasn’t completed.
The doubles team of Walker and Jordan Nelson lost to Ahlers and Hasslequist, 6-1 and 6-3.
LeMars went on to win the substate when they defeated Glenwood, 5-1.
With the team portion of their season done, Pete Walker will get the opportunity to compete at state this Friday.
Walker won the singles district title in Shenandoah on May 12.
Walker will travel to Waterloo in Eastern Iowa as the state tournament kicks off on Friday morning.
