Red Oak loses both games versus LC, Glenwood
RED OAK—The Red Oak Tigers girls’ basketball team lost Friday night to Lewis Central, 65-22, at the Red Oak High School gym.
Red Oak jumped out to an early lead, taking a 7-2 lead with more than five minutes left in the first. Red Oak’s offense kept it close thanks to the efforts of Gabi French and Adrienne Mahoney.
The two combined to score all nine of Red Oak’s points in the first quarter, but the Tigers trailed 13-9.
The Tigers closed the gap to 13-11, but Lewis Central jumped ahead with an 8-0 run in the second quarter. Red Oak at one point found themselves down by as much as 17 points.
The Tigers scored five straight points near the end of the half, but were down 33-18 at halftime.
Lewis Central’s defense stepped it up in the second half, alternating between presses and zone defenses. Red Oak scored four points in the second half, including one the entire fourth quarter.
French finished the game as the leading scorer for Red Oak with nine points.
Mahonney was behind French with six points. Blake Bergren scored four points, all of them coming in the second quarter.
Red Oak lost to the No. 12-ranked in 3A Glenwood Rams, last Tuesday, 58-24.
The Tigers were held to single-digit points in each of the four quarters.
The big difference was in the second quarter, when the Rams outscored Red Oak, 24-7, including a 12-2 run at the end of the half.
French led the Tigers with 10 points.
