Red Oak hosts boys district tennis; Rolenc places fourth

Glenwood’s boys tennis team walked away with the district championship in singles and doubles Thursday, at the district meet hosted by Red Oak.
Teams from Clarinda, Clarke, Creston, Glenwood, Red Oak, Shenandoah, Southwest Valley, and St. Albert competed in the district.
Weston Rolenc of Red Oak was seeded number four entering districts, and ended the day in fourth place.
Rolenc defeated Bryce Newton of Southwest Valley in the first round, 6-1,6-1.
In the second round, Rolenc defeated Nathan Rhedin of St. Albert.
In the semi-final round, Rolenc lost to Alex Chekal of Glenwood.
Chekal went on to become the district champion, with Reed Morris of Clarke as runner-up. Both advance to state.
In doubles, Glenwood’s duo of Sam Lauritsen and Adam Konfrst won and Jacob Cook and Jaden Driskell of Creston placed second, and both doubles teams advance to state.
Red Oak’s doubles team of Garrett Rolenc and Sean Griffen lost to Lauritzen and Konfrst of Glenwood in the first round.
Carlos Guerra and Jake Echternach were defeated by Dalton Davis and John Kinser of Southwest Valley, 6-1, 6-3.
First-place team Glenwood advances to substate. Second-place Creston will host third-place Clarke, with the winner advancing to substate.
Southwest Valley
Nic Frede lost in the first round of singles to Reed Miller of St. Albert, 6-0, 6-2.
After defeating the Red Oak team in the first round, Davis and Kinser lost to Otto and Echeveste of Clarke, 6-1, 6-2. The Clarke doubles team went on to place third overall.
Quinton Scott and Aiden Gaule lost in the first round to Dustin Merritt and Tristan Davidson of Creston, 6-1, 6-2.
“We didn’t draw very well, especially in singles,” Timberwolves coach Pete Nett said. “In a blind draw of all players, having both of your players have to play number one players from their own schools is just bad luck. It was great to see Dalton and John get a win. They played very solid the whole day.”
