Red Oak girls fifth at H-10 meet

CLARINDA — The Red Oak girls track and field team opened the 2012 season with a fifth place finish at the Hawkeye Ten Southern Division meet, held in Clarinda last Tuesday.

The team finished with a score of 29 points, placing last out of the four teams competing for points. Creston won the team title with a score of 139 points.

Maddy Mann provided a few of the key highlights, which included a third place finish in the 100-meter dash. Mann ran a time of 13.53 seconds, beating out Jaedra Moses of Clarinda by .02 seconds.

Her teammate Erica Jackson, who competed in the same heat, finished fifth with a time of 13.81 seconds.

Mann also had a fourth place finish in the 200-meter dash as she ran a time of 29.51 seconds. Mann was a half second behind Moses for third.

Josie Snyder had a fourth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, with a time of 1:24.80. Elise Gronhaug was behind Snyder in fifth.

Mara-Vanessa Kriebitzsch had a pair of fourth place finishes in the discus throw and shot put. Kristi Yardas finished sixth in the shot put.

On the relay end, Red Oak placed second in the sprint medley, three seconds behind Creston and a third place finish in the distance medley, with a time of 5:06.91.

Red Oak also had several fourth place finishes in the relay events, doing so in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Red Oak has two meets for this week. It all starts Tuesday when they head back to Clarinda to compete in the Clarinda Relays.

Thursday will be their first home meet of the season as they take part in the Lady Tiger Relays.
