Red Oak girls' basketball are painting the town

There are bright orange tiger paw prints appearing on sidewalks and driveways all around the community, in effort to help school sports.

The Tigers girls’ basketball team has found a creative way to both raise money and have members of the community promote school spirit.

As long as weather permits, the players are painting a tiger paw print and the word “tigers” on driveways or mini-tiger paw prints on sidewalks.

“It’s a nice way for people to show their team spirit,” Red Oak Head Coach Shelley Becker said. “I’ve done this the last couple years in Carroll and it seemed to be a successful program.”

The girls are painting to raise money for team traveling suits, which will include pants and a jacket that the team will travel in, giving them a more professional look as they arrive in neighboring communities.

Any extra money will be used toward a shooting machine, making practices more efficient.

Large tiger paws for driveways are being sold for $25 and the smaller paws for sidewalks are being sold at $10 apiece.

The decals are made with permanent paint, which will be retouched in the following years for a reduced price.
