Red Oak gets lone win versus Clarinda

 The Red Oak baseball team concluded another busy week and had one win early.

The lone win came last Monday on the road when the Tigers defeated Clarinda 7-3.

Red Oak (5-18) scored three runs early and stayed in control for the remainder of the game. Clarinda tried to close the gap in the second inning, but the Tigers held on, adding one run in the fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the sixth inning.

Will West scored a run and knocked in two more as the Tigers’ leading hitter, going 3-for-4 with a double.

Ryker Connell had a triple and three RBIs as he went 2-for-3 in the game. Dean Smith scored a run as he went 2-for-4.

Jesse Taylor got the win for the Tigers, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits.

St. Albert doubleheader

The Tigers were swept in a doubleheader Friday night against St. Albert. They  lost 14-1 in game one and 6-1 in game two.

In game one, Colin Bruce scored the lone run of the game, thanks to an RBI hit by Connell. Bruce was 1-for-3 in the game, while Connell went 1-for-1. Taylor was 1-for-3.

The Tigers stayed close in game two, but weren’t able to close the gap.

Smith scored the only run for Red Oak. Bruce, Taylor and Ryan Lundgren all went 1-for-3.

Harlan doubleheader

Red Oak was swept in a doubleheader at Harlan Thursday night. The games were originally scheduled for Red Oak, but had to be moved to Harlan because of rain.

Red Oak lost game one 16-1 and game two 8-1.

The Tigers put a run up in the first inning, but Harlan responded swiftly with four in the first, one in the second and nine more in the third to take a commanding lead.

Lundgren had the only hit and run in the game for Red Oak.

In game two, the top-ranked Cyclones took the lead early and never let up. Ryan Dyson scored the lone run in the game for Red Oak.

Taylor had the only hit for Red Oak as he was 1-for-3.

Red Oak vs. Creston

The Tigers fell short 12-2 in five  innings to Creston.

The difference in the game was the first inning when Creston scored nine runs to take a 9-0 lead.

Red Oak held on to score two runs in the top of the fifth to make it 11-2. However, Creston finished the game in the bottom half of the inning with a run.

Carlos Guerra was the leading hitter for Red Oak, going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Lundgren went 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, while Bruce was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Red Oak was scheduled to play Creston Monday night at home as part of senior night. Results weren’t available as of press time.

The Tigers begin the postseason Saturday night when they travel to Avoca to take on Clarinda in the opening round of 2A districts.

The winner of the game will play Treynor next Tuesday in Avoca.
