Red Oak football shut out by Carroll on road, 48-0

CARROLL — The Red Oak Tigers lost Friday night to the Carroll Tigers in the first game in 3A District football,  48-0.

Carroll scored all of their points in the first half, with the clock running for the entire second half.

Brad Christiansen scored his first of three touchdowns when he ran for 2 yards, at the beginning of the first quarter.

Anthony Beyerink ran for a score from 13 yards, to give Carroll a 14-0 lead halfway through the first quarter.

Nate Johnston scored the third rushing touchdown of the quarter for Carroll, from 1 yard away, to give them a 21-0 lead.

Christiansen had his second touchdown of the quarter when he caught a pass from Casey Kasperbauer for 27 yards, with 22 seconds left in the quarter. Carroll led 28-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Kasperbauer threw his second touchdown pass, completing one for 9 yards to Beyerink. After the PAT, the score was 35-0.

Christiansen had his third touchdown of the game when he returned an interception 33 yards for a score.

Carroll missed the PAT, but their lead was now 41-0. Red Oak turned the ball over five times, with three of those turnovers being interceptions.

Carroll’s final touchdown came with nearly three minutes left in the half when Johnston ran for a 34-yard score.

Seth Esaias finished the game as Red Oak’s leading rusher with 21 carries for 115 yards, marking Esaias’ first 100-yard rushing game of the season.

Esaias was also Red Oak’s leading tackler as he finished with 12 total, including five solo tackles.

Nick Leinen finished the game with 31 yards on 17 carries.

Defensively, Tanner Johnson had nine total tackles (three solo).
Red Oak has now lost 10 straight games, including three straight shutouts to start the season.

This Friday, the Tigers are home as they face Winterset. Red Oak was shut out by Winterset last season, 70-0.
