Red Oak fire battle structure fire Feb. 11

The Red Oak Fire Deparment was called to the scene of a structure fire on Feb. 11.

According to Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce, they were called to the scene of the fire at 11:58 a.m., the James and Jan Norris farm at 2479 B Ave. the Red Oak Fire Department was called to 2479 B Ave., for a reported barn fire fully engulfed with fire.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found a pole style barn, fully engulfed in flames. Due to the structures location and the ground condition, the apparatus had to stage on B Ave and do a long-lay to get fire hose to the structure,” Bruce said.

Bruce added there were multiple vehicles and a wood working shop located within the structure. The building and contents are a total loss. Bruce still working with insurance carrier at time of report, and damage estimates are unavailable at this time.

Fire fighters were able to bring the fire under control, and fire ground operations terminated at 2:08 p.m.

“There were no injuries to firefighters, civilians, or livestock. The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time,” said Bruce.  

The Red Oak Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Emerson Fire Department, Essex Fire Department, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Montgomery County Secondary Roads, MidAmerican Energy, and the Montgomery County Communications Center.
