Red Oak drops baseball opener to Kuemper

CARROLL — The Red Oak baseball team lost its first and only game for the week, 7-0, to Kuemper Catholic Friday night in Carroll.

The game was supposed to be part of a varsity doubleheader, however, they played one game and the second one was rained out.

Red Oak was held hitless in the game as Kuemper Catholic jumped out to a lead early on and stayed ahead.

Adam Schleisman kept Red Oak in check, striking out 16 batters. Schleisman also made Red Oak pay with his bat as he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Pitching for Red Oak was Carlos Guerra, who went four innings, giving up five runs on nine hits. Guerra struck out seven Kuemper Catholic batters.

Jesse Taylor went the final two innings, allowing two runs, both unearned.

Red Oak was scheduled to play Underwood last Tuesday, but the game was rained out.

They were also scheduled to play Essex Saturday, but a scheduling conflict led to the game not being played.

Red Oak got back in action Monday night when they hosted Shenandoah. Results weren’t available as of press time.

The action continues Saturday when Red Oak hosts a triangular against both Missouri Valley and Southwest Valley. The triangular kicks off at noon.
