Red Oak defeats Clarinda Academy twice in one week
SHENANDOAH—The Red Oak Tigers picked up a 48-26 win against the Clarinda Academy Saturday at the Shenandoah Duals.
Red Oak went 1-4 at the duals, also competing against Thomas Jefferson, St. Albert, Shenandoah and East Mills.
Austin Hale (103-pounds) defeated Darian Little Thunder Saul by pinfall at the 1:20 mark of the first period.
The win over Saul was in fact Hale’s second win against him this week.
Bailey Akers needed a third period to pick up his win, pinning Tyler Washam in a 130-pound clash.
Tanner Allensworth (135-pounds) defeated Cesar Chavez by pinfall with eight seconds left in the first period.
Jon Sands and Nick Leinen got the final wins for Red Oak. Sands (152-pounds) defeated Lauviance Thompson at the 1:09 mark of the first period.
Leinen (215-pounds) defeated Dankaran Morris-Meier with less than a minute to go in the first period.
Both sides picked up forfeit victories.
Red Oak started their morning with a 42-27 loss against East Mills.
Sellers, Leinen and Seth Esaias won the only matches for Red Oak that weren’t forfeits. Sellers (119-pounds) won a 9-7 decision against Kyle Miller.
Leinen, who moved to 189-pounds for the match, pinned Josh Neppl with about 30 seconds left . Esaias (171-pounds) pinned Austin Hatcher with 24 seconds left in the first period.
Red Oak’s first dual of the afternoon came against St. Albert. The Tigers came up close, but lost 46-32.
Hale defeated Tyler Larchick by pinfall at the 1:09 mark in the first period. Jakob Berkey also won by pin fall, defeating Mason Beezley with 18 seconds left in the match.
Both Esaias and Leinen wrestled to major decision victories. Esaias defeated Scott Moran 15-3 in the 189-pound match. Leinen defeated Sean O’Neill 17-3 in the 215-pound match.
Red Oak then lost to Thomas Jefferson of Council Bluffs, 69-12. Red Oak’s lone wins came via forfeit.
In the Tigers final dual of the day, they lost to Shenandoah, 51-27.
Esaias defeated Tyler McCoy by pinfall with 11 seconds left in the first period. Leinen also pinned his opponent Trevor Johnson with 53 seconds left in the first period. German Escribano picked up the final win for Red Oak, wrestling to a 4-0 decision against Tyler Dalley.
For their efforts, Sellers and Esaias were both named to the all-duals team.
The Tigers took part in a triangular last Tuesday at Riverside High School in Oakland, defeating Clarinda Academy, but losing to Riverside.
Red Oak defeated Clarinda Academy, 42-36. All of the Tiger’s wins came by way of pinfall.
Austin Hale (103-pounds) won the first match for the Tigers when he defeated Darian Little Thunder by pinfall in 36 seconds. Sellers also secured a pinfall in 29 seconds when he defeated Gustavo Garcia.
Sellers win started a four match-winning streak as Bailey Akers, Christopher Allison and Tanner Allensworth all won.
Akers (125-pounds) pinned Aaron Nilles at 1:29 in the second period, which was the same time Allison (130-pounds) pinned Tyler Washam. Allensworth (135-pounds) secured his pinfall one minute into the first round against Cesar Chavez.
Esaias (171-pounds) pinned Patrick Iiams with 17 seconds left in the first period. Leinen (189-pounds) secured the final win when he pinned Jamoni Pullum 23 seconds into the second period.
Red Oak lost their dual to Riverside High School, 45-21.
Ryan Perry picked up the first win for the Tigers when he pinned Riverside’s Eric Rock with 17 seconds left in the first period.
Sellers followed it up with a technical fall (16-0) victory over Conner Rankin. Jakob Berkey won a 12-2 major decision over Jordan Young.
Red Oak now has time in between their next meet as the winter break has finally arrived. They’ll hit the ground running Jan. 4 when they head to Clarinda for a triangular against Clarinda and Corning.
