Red Oak Boys win over Clarinda; lose next two to Creston and Tri-Center

RED OAK – The Tigers seemed to be on a mission as they took the floor against Clarinda, Tuesday, as their defense swarmed the Cardinals throughout the entire game.

After losing seven consecutive games, the Tigers gained some much-needed confidence with their decisive win over Shenandoah, and let that confidence pour over into Tuesday's 38-29 win.

“We're hoping to get some momentum going here going into the end of the year,” Red Oak Boys' Basketball Head Coach Brad Schlieman said. “We feel like we're just starting to find a nice groove here, having everybody back in the line-up and getting healthy again.”

Tigers' guard Dakota White found his groove, scoring a team-high 12 points, adding four steals against Clarinda.

Jackson Miller led the Tigers, with six rebounds in the conference victory.

Friday, the Tigers did not have the same result as they hosted the Creston Cougars.

After trailing by 12 in the second half, the Tigers surged in the fourth quarter, led again by White, but could not overcome the deficit, losing 58-54.

“I was really proud of how our guys fought that second half,” Schlieman said. “We were in a good spot to tie or even take the lead in the last seconds, but it didn't happen for us.”

Saturday, the Tigers traveled to Neola to face Tri-Center in a non-conference game.

Tri-Center piled on 32 points in the second and third quarters as they defeated the Tigers, 55-41, improving to 10-5.

Red Oak stands at 3-10 on the season and 3-8 in the Hawkeye 10. The Tigers hold a one-game lead over Shenandoah and have two more wins than Clarinda.
