Red Oak BB split wins with Atlantic; fall to Glenwood

Red Oak basketball split wins in Atlantic Tuesday, Jan. 21, with the girls earning the win and the boys falling in a late comeback from the Trojans.
Red Oak girls picked up the 56-41 win aided by 24 forced turnovers by the Tiger defense.
Red Oak jumped to a 15-2 first quarter lead and never gave up the lead.
Sophie Walker led three Tigers in double figures with 17 points, and had eight assists, four steals.
Lexi Johnson added 13 points; Ellie Rengstorf 10 points, six steals; Kyndal Kells eight points, seven rebounds, four steals; Chloe DeVries three points; Allie West three points, five rebounds; and Libby Mensen two points, five rebounds.
Boys
Red Oak boys held a 13-12 first quarter lead and extended that to 27-23 at the half. The Trojans rallied in the third and took a one-point lead at the end of the quarter, then started dropping the baskets in the fourth to earn the 64-52 win.
Kobe Johnson led the Tigers in scoring with a dozen points, and completed the double double with a dozen rebounds.
Baylor Bergren added 11 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block; Garrett Couse seven points; Bradley Sifford six points, five rebounds; Jacob Athen four points; Ryan Johnson, Nolan Blackman, Kaden Johnson, and Nick Fouts three points each.
Glenwood
The Tigers hosted Glenwood on Friday, Jan. 24, with both Tiger teamsĀ  dropping the conference games.
Glenwood girls grabbed an 18-13 lead in the first quarter, but the Tigers roared back and led 31-29 at the half. Glenwood found its offense in the third quarter and began to pull away, ending the game with a 95-67 win over the Tigers.
Rengstorf hit seven treys on her way to a season high 27 points. She had five assists and four steals.
Chloe Johnson added 16 points, five rebounds; West 10 points, eight rebounds; Walker five points, five rebounds, 10 assists, four blocks; Kells four points, six rebounds; DeVries three points; and Payten Bass two points.
Red Oak falls to 13-3 on the season.
Boys
Tiger boys fall to 3-12 on the season after dropping a 71-41 game to Glenwood (11-3).
Kobe Johnson led the Tigers with 16 points, nine rebounds; G. Couse eight points; R. Johnson six points; Kaden Johnson three points; Athen, Blackman, and Sifford two points each; and Braden Woods one point.
Red Oak travels to Clarinda Friday, Jan. 31, with the girls game beginning at 6 p.m., and the boys game to follow.
