Red Oak’s Knaus wins triangular




Red Oak freshman Brynn Knaus continued her stellar debut season last week by winning the individual portion in the triangular in Corning hosted by Southwest Valley and including the Essex-Stanton girls.
The Tiger girls defeated SWV 248-259, and the Essex-Stanton girls did not field a team. SWV’s Becca Wetzel shot a 54 to take runner-up honors.
Red Oak head girls golf coach Patty Henke was proud of the team, as they were missing their number one and number four players.

Southwest Valley boys defended the home course, winning with a team score of 192. Red Oak finished second, shooting a 214, and Essex-Stanton finished with 237.
Owen Wilkinson earned medalist honors with a 41 for the Timberwolves, and teammate Jake Oathoudt claimed runner-up honors, carding a 44.

Shenandoah
Red Oak boys competed in the Mustang Invitational in Shenandoah on Tuesday, April 12. The two-division tournament included 15 teams from the area. Due to the weather, the tournament was shortened to a 9-hole event.
“With the temperatures ranging from 50 degrees to near 90 degrees and the winds 25 mph plus, conditions were very difficult for all players from the tee through the greens,” Red Oak head boys golf coach Bob Boeye said.
Red Oak finished seventh in the large school division, while Southwest Valley, East Mills, and Essex-Stanton finished fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively, in the small school division.

Lewis Central
The Red Oak boys traveled to Lewis Central for another tournament on Thursday, April 14, this time playing the entire 18 holes. Red Oak finished with a team score of 441, placing ninth of 10 teams.
“We were missing Tyler Beeson due to illness,” Boeye said. “The Tigers survived the weather, but were plagued by their old nemesis of bad putting, penalties, and too many big scores on too many holes. Hopefully, the weather will improve and a few upcoming practices will help to get back on track.”

Shenandoah
Red Oak girls competed in the Fillies Invite in Shenandoah on Thursday, April 14, and finished with a team score of 475, placing seventh of 12 teams.
Team scoring: 1- St. Albert 412; 2- Creston 428; 3- Shenandoah 440; 4- Sidney 447; 5- Essex-Stanton 460; 6- Harlan 469; 7- Red Oak 475; 8- Clarinda 477; 9- Glenwood 498; 10- Southwest Valley 500; 11- East Unioin 519; 12- Lewis Central 544.
Addey Lydon medaled for the Tigers in 10th place, shooting a 105. Knaus placed 13th with a 107, losing the card-off for the final medalist spot.
Other Red Oak scores: Medina 128; O’Neal 135; Meier 146; Smith 154.
East Mills’ Mallory Lang finished in fourth with a 97 as the only Wolverine to compete.
Allie Sandin led the Essex-Stanton team with a 12th place
medalist win of 107.

SWV’s leader was Miaya Fourez with a 116 for 22nd place.
