ACCIDENTS

• On Aug. 22, at 5:44 a.m., Iowa State Patrol troopers responded to a three-vehicle accident on Highway 34 in Mills County. Richard Dady, 26, Bellevue, Neb., driving a 2006 International 860 was traveling east on Highway 34. Dennis Swain, 66, Red Oak, driving a 1996 Chevrolet C1500, was traveling west on Highway 34. The Swain vehicle crossed over the center line, striking the Dady vehicle before crossing over to the westbound lanes, where it then struck a 2014 Ford Expedition driven by Adriane Aufdenberg, 36, Red Oak. Swain and Dady were transported to University of Nebraska Medical Center by Red Oak EMS. The vehicles were towed from the scene.

• On Aug. 25, at 9:08 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Broadway and Cherry Street. Gregory Henderson, 53, Omaha, driving a 2007 Freightliner semi, was traveling north on Broadway and was, according to the police report, unable to stop for the red light because of road conditions. Gregg Peters, 76, Elliott, driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, was traveling west on Cherry Street and entering the Plaza, when his vehicle was struck on the driver rear side by the semi, causing it to spin 180 degrees. Damage to the semi was estimated at $1,000, while damage to the Peters vehicle was about $7,500. There were no injuries, and because of the wet street, Henderson received only a warning for failure to obey traffic control device.

• On Aug. 27, at 11:36 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and 4th Street. Carol Sharp, 90, Red Oak, driving a 1993 Ford Ranger pick-up, was traveling north on 4th Street when, according to the report, he did not see any cars coming from the east, failed to obey a stop sign and entered the intersection. Kennedy Lamb, 14, Red Oak, driving a 2003 Chrysler Sebring, was traveling east on Highway 34 when her vehicle struck the rear of Sharp’s vehicle on the driver’s side. Damage to the Lamb vehicle was about $4,000, while damage to the Sharp vehicle was estimated at $1,000. A passenger in the Sharp vehicle reportedly had a minor injury but refused medical treatment. Sharp was cited for fail to obey stop sign and yield right of way. Lamb was cited for violation of conditions of minor’s school license.
