ACCIDENTS

• On May 31, at 11 a.m., Red Oak Police were called to the intersection of East Reet Street and North 4th Street for a two-vehicle property damage accident. A 2009 Ford Econoline van driven by Brandon Ancheta, 24, Red Oak, and owned by Mediacom Corp. of Des Moines was westbound on Reed Street and stopped at the stop sign. A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Jane Waltz, 72, Red Oak, was also westbound on Reed Street and approaching the rear of Ancheta’s vehicle. The Ancheta vehicle started to move and then slowed to enter the intersection and stopped. The Waltz vehicle pulled forward and struck the rear of Ancheta’s vehicle, causing minor damage to both vehicles. Damage to the Ancheta vehicle was about $800, and damage to the Waltz vehicle was estimated at $100. No citations were issued.

• On June 1, 10:06 a.m., Red Oak Police were called to the intersection of North 4th Street and East Corning Street after a report of a two-vehicle property damage accident. A 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Brian Hamman, 31, Red Oak, was westbound on east Corning Street, and a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Gary Lebeck, 76, Atlantic was southbound on 4th Street, going the wrong way up the one-way street. As Hamman approached the intersection on 4th Street, the Lebeck vehicle pulled into the intersection and struck Hamman’s vehicle. Damage to the Hamman vehicle was about $1,500, and damage to the Lebeck vehicle was estimated at $1,000. Lebeck was cited for driving the wrong way on a one-way street.
