ACCIDENTS

• On Dec. 18, at 5:46 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 8th and Joy streets. Jeanne Franson, 56, Villisca, driving a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado pick-up, was traveling east on Joy Street and, according to the report, failed to obey they yield sign at the intersection on 8th Street, hitting a 2009 Nissan Murano driven by Shirley Urich, 43, Red Oak, which was traveling south on 8th Street. The Urich vehicle spun 180 degrees in the roadway, and airbags deployed in both vehicles. Damage to the Franson vehicle was about $4,500, and damage to the Urich vehicle was also about $4,500. Both vehicles were towed, and an ambulance was called to evaluate Urich. Franson was cited for failure to obey a yield sign.

• On Dec. 21, at 11 a.m., Red Oak Police officers received a report of a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Eastern Avenue and Summit Street. According to the report, Katherine Vandrey, 61, Red Oak, reported on Dec. 20 at 4 p.m., she was driving a 2015 Kia Soul west on Summit Street when a 2007 Buick Lucerne driven by Harlan Ebert, Jr., 89, Red Oak, failed to stop at the stop sign as he was traveling north on Eastern Avenue. The Ebert vehicle struck the Vandrey vehicle, causing $2,500 damage to the Vandrey vehicle and $2,000 damage to the Ebert vehicle.

• On Dec. 24, at 1: 17 p.m., Red Oak Police officers received a report that a fire hydrant in a yard at West 3rd Street and 4th Avenue, had been struck and was bent over. Upon investigation, officers saw evidence that someone had lost control and struck the fire hydrant, causing about $1,000 damage.
