ACCIDENTS
• On Nov. 19, at 8 p.m., Red Oak Police officers received a report of a hit-and-run accident in the 300 block of Prospect Street. A 2003 Lincoln Aviator owned by Devin Meek, Red Oak, was properly parked facing west on Propect Street when Meek noticed damage to the driver’s side door. According to the report, officers believed someone backed out of the driveway to the south and ran into the Meek vehicle. Officers spoke to the owner of vehicles in that driveway about a damaged Dodge truck and were told it was damaged already, and that the driveway is often used by people who turn around in it.
• On Nov. 20, at 2:02 p.m., Montgomery County Communications Center received a call from OnStar about an accident west of L Avenue on Highway 34 east of Red Oak. Upon arrival, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies found that Kaitlyn Barrett, 19, Bedford, driving a 2002 Chevy Impala, was traveling west on Highway 34 when Barrett pulled off onto the north shoulder and attempted to do a u-turn. A 2011 Buick Enclave, operated by Donna Carlson, 80, Red Oak, was traveling the same direction and collided with the Barrett vehicle. Barrett was flown to University of Nebraska Medical Center with a head injury and released later that day, according to a family member. Carlson and passenger Robert Carlson, 85, Red Oak, were transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital be Red Oak Rescue with possible injuries. Damage to the Barrett vehicle was about $6,000, and damage to the Carlson vehicle was estimated at $18,000. Charges are pending at this time. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Red Oak Fire and Rescue, LifeNet, Montgomery County EMA, Red Oak Police Department, Eggleston Towing and Bates Towing.
• On Nov. 25, at 2:59 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Highway 34 and Eastern Avenue. Nathan Vesely, 28, Wilber, Neb., driving a 2014 Jeep Compass, was traveling west on Highway 34 and was slowing down for a vehicle in front of him which was turning south on Eastern Avenue. Tasheena Marriott, 26, College Springs, driving a 2011 Ford Edge, was also traveling west on Highway 34 behind the Vesely vehicle, did not see the Vesely vehicle slowing down, and ran into the back of the Vesely vehicle. Damage to the Vesely vehicle was estimated at $1,200, while damage to the Marriott vehicle was about $4,000. Marriott was cited for following too closely.
