ACCIDENTS
• On Oct. 24, at 8:51 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 200 block of South 2nd St. Winona Samuelson, 72, driving a 2009 Chevrolet HHR, was in the driveway at the Depot and struck a legally-parked 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the rear. The Jeep, which was unoccupied, then began rolling east down the driveway, struck a mailbox and the curb, then turned left and went down the hill to the north, where it ran into a chain link fence and then a utility pole owned by MidAmerican Energy. Damage to the Samuelson vehicle was about $2,000; and damage to the Jeep was about $10,000. Damage to the mailbox was $100, damage to the fence was about $1,000, and damage to the pole was estimated at $30,000. There were no injuries. It is believed that the parking pin in the transmission of the Jeep may have broken when the vehicle was struck. No citations were issued.
• On Oct. 24, at 2 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital parking lot. Alexia Fridolph, 17, Red Oak, driving a 2011 Hyundai Sonata owned by Timothy Fridolph, Red Oak, was traveling east through the parking lot and Chance Kline, 16, Essex, driving a 2014 Kia Sorento owned by Cybill Erickson, Essex, was traveling south in the parking lot. According to the report, Kline did not see the Fridolph vehicle and his vehicle hit Fridolph’s driver’s side door. Damage to the Fridolph vehicle was about $2,000, and damage to the Kline vehicle was about $700. Fridolph was transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue for evaluation after complaining of pain. No citations were issued.
