Accident Reports
On Jan. 15, at 9:55 a.m., officers found a 2006 Chevrolet Uplander driven by Jennifer Lee Jackson, 31, of Red Oak, and a 2005 Chevrolet Cavlier driven by John Charles Stapleton, 21, of Red Oak, in the roadway in the 200 block of E. Oak St., in Red Oak.
Jackson was eastbound on E. Oak St., in her Uplander, stopped and waiting to make a left turn into the Dollar General parking lot. Stapleton was also eastbound on E. Oak St. Stapleton looked down at the dash to turn down the heat in his Cavlier and when he looked back up Jackson had stopped to turn left. Stapleton was unable to stop his vehicle before rear ending Jackson's Uplander with the front of his Cavlier. The Uplander had damage to the rear bumper and the trailer hitch, but remained drivable. The Cavlier was considered a total loss and was towed with the driver's consent. Stapleton complained of pain in his left wrist and was transported by a family member to the hospital for check-up. He was issued a citation for following too close.
On Jan. 18, at 8:30 a.m., a 2003 Ford Taurus driven by Ellen Joy Green, 68, of Red Oak, and owned by Merlin Lawrence Green, of Red Oak, was southbound on N. 5th St., approaching the intersection with E. Linden St. Green didn't notice the 2002 Chevrolet Venture driven by Nicole Ann Biggerstaff, 25, of Malvern, headed eastbound on E. Linden St., approaching the intersection with N. 5th St. Green couldn't stop in time to yield to Biggerstaff (who had the right of way) at the intersection and was struck by Biggerstaff's Venture in the right front tire area of the Taurus. The Taurus sustained $3,800 in disabling damage while the Venture sustained $1,500 damage and remained operable. Green was issued a citation for failure to yield right of way at an intersection.
