ACCIDENTS

• On Sept. 19, at 3:42 p.m., Red Oak Police officers were called to an accident at the intersection of 6th and Linden streets. Johnathon Brown, 30, Red Oak, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, was traveling east on Linden Street. Melody Bourn, 61, Red Oak, driving a 2009 Dodge Durango, was turning left onto Linden Street from 6th Street. According to the report, Bourn was looking in the rear view mirror as she turned, and turned into the wrong lane of traffic, where her vehicle struck the Brown vehicle. Damage to the Brown vehicle was estimated at $1,000, while damage to the Bourn vehicle was about $1,500. Bourn was issued a warning for traveling on the wrong side of the highway.

• On Sept. 22, at 3:48 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of a two-vehicle accident at L Avenue and 220th Street. Justin Toews, 40, Stanton, driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey was traveling north on L Avenue and crested the hill just south of the 220th Street intersection. Just then Easton Hultman, 16, Red Oak, driving a 2012 Dodge Avenger owned by Bret Hultman began a turn onto 220th Street onto L Avenue going south. The Toews vehicle struck the Hultman vehicle, causing the wheel studs on the Avenger to shear off, and the vehicle came to rest in the southbound lane. The Honda had minor damage, including a ruined front tire. According to the report, the location of the hill in proximity to the intersection is believed to have impaired Hultman’s ability to see the oncoming Toews vehicle. Damage to the Hultman vehicle was about $1,200, and damage to the Toews vehicle was estimated at $1,500. There were no injuries, and no citations were issued.

• On Sept. 22, at 5:46 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the 100 block of 230th Street for a single-vehicle accident. Allyssa Kenney, 15, Red Oak, driving a 1994 Dodge Ram, was traveling west on 230th Street when she lost control and the vehicle spun 180 degrees and collided with a bridge, coming to rest partially off the bridge. The vehicle is considered a total loss. Damage to the bridge was about $3,000, although it was deemed safe for vehicle traffic by Montgomery County Secondary Roads. Kenney was cited for violation of a minor’s school license, and she and two other juveniles were transported to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue with unknown injuries. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Red Oak Fire Department and Montgomery County Secondary Roads.
