ACCIDENTS

• On June 17, at about 1:54 p.m., Red Oak Police officers responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident in the 1800 block of Highland Avenue. Sometime during the night or early morning hours of June 16, a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up was struck by an unknown vehicle. Officers observed yellow paint on the damage, and speculate someone backed out of a driveway across the street and backed into the vehicle. Damage is estimated at $1,500.

• On XXXX, at about XX:XX, Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 3rd Street and Elm Street. Clayton Adams, 27, Red Oak, driving a 2015 Ford F-150 pick-up owned by Healthy Turf Mow & Snow LLC was traveling south on 3rd Street and approaching the intersection with Elm Street. Ashylnn Larson, 21, Randolph, driving a 2001 Ford Econoline van owned by Nishna Productions, was traveling was on Elm Street and was at the intersection with 3rd Street. Larson failed to observe the yield sign and proceeded into the intersection, where her vehicle was struck by the Adams vehicle. Damage to the Adams vehicle was about $4,000, while damage to the Larson vehicle was estimated at $3,000. There were no injuries, and Larson was cited for failure to obey yield sign or yield right of way.

• On June 22, at about 11:16 a.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of a two-vehicle accident at 130th Street and O Avenue (M63). Upon investigation, three vehicles were found to be involved. Michael Harvey, Carson, driving a 2014 Volkswagen Passat, was traveling south on O Avenue when his vehicle crossed the center line. Michael Foote, Stanton, driving a 2013 Ford F450 owned by David Devries and pulling a trailer with hay bales and traveling north, attempted to avoid the accident, was not successful and the two vehicles collided. The vehicles ended up in ditches on opposite sides of the road. The Foote vehicle struck a fence owned by Greg Olander, causing about $450 damage. A 2003 Chevrolet Impala driven by Rochelle Sink, Red Oak, and owned by Joan Sink, which was behind the Foote vehicle and also traveling north, entered the ditch while attempting to avoid the accident, striking a wooden post and fiber option junction owned by Griswold Telephone Cooperative. There were no injuries. Damage to the Harvey vehicle was about $20,000, and it is considered a total loss. Damage to the Foote vehicle is estimated at $70,000, with $15,000 damage to the trailer and $420 damage to the hay bales. The Sink vehicle had approximately $3,000 damage. Harvey was cited for failure to yield half of roadway when meeting a vehicle and failure to carry current proof of insurance.

• On June 24, at about 8:03 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 2nd Street and Prospect Street. Edward Guyer, 60, Red Oak, driving a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan owned by Nishna Productions, was traveling north on 2nd Street and was at the intersection with Prospect Street. Logan Cashatt, 22, Red Oak, driving a 2003 Chevrolet 1600 Silverado pick-up, was traveling west on Prospect Street and was approaching the intersection with 2nd Street. The Guyer vehicle was proceeding through the intersection when the Cashatt vehicle also proceeded into the intersection and struck the Guyer vehicle, which had the right of way due to a yield sign. The Guyer vehicle had about $6,000 in damage, while damage to the Cashatt vehicle was estimated at $3,000. There were no injuries, and Cashatt was cited for failure to obey a yield sign or yield the right of way.

• On June 24, at about 10:40 a.m., Red Oak Police officers responded to a one-vehicle accident in the area of Towle Street and Coolbaugh St. Maxine Cleveland, 96, Red Oak, driving a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina, had pulled into the garage at her home and parked her car, removing the keys and exiting the vehicle. As she was exiting, she thought the vehicle was still running and reentered the vehicle, at which time it popped into reverse and began backing down her driveway. The driver’s door, which was ajar, struck the side of her car and a sidewalk railing, and the car crossed Coolbaugh Street and into the yard, where it collided with the foundation of the house and came to rest. Cleveland told officers she tried to brake the vehicle, but the brakes failed. Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle was still running and were unable to turn it off, due to a mechanical problem, which is thought to have created the accident. Damage to the Cleveland vehicle was around $1,500 damage, while damage to the rental home owned by Sherry Bourlon was approximately $4,000. No injuries were reported, and no citations were issued.
