ACCIDENTS

• On June 1, at 8: 50 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of North 2nd and Maple streets. Carroll Thuman, 75, Red Oak, driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pick up, was traveling south on 2nd Street. Jacob Orr, 25, driving a 2002 Ford F15 pick up owned by Lisa Gross, Red Oak, was traveling east on Maple Street. The vehicles approached the intersection and, according to the report, Thuman did not see the Orr vehicle until it was too late and his vehicle struck the Orr vehicle. The Orr vehicle was pushed into the curb, breaking off a piece of the concrete and came to rest partly in the yard. The Thuman vehicle jumped and the curb and hit a guide wire to the light pole, breaking the cable and the light pole wire. Damage to the Thuman vehicle was about $6,000, damage to the Orr vehicle was about $5,000, and both are considered a total loss. Damage to the curb was about $1,000 and damage to the light pole, owned by MidAmerican Energy, was about $500. Thuman was cited for failing to yield to the vehicle on the right.
