Incidents

• On May 28, at 3:50 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s received a report of a stolen or missing 2013 kenworth %660 semi with trailer belonging to W.W. Transport Inc. of Burlington. The semi left Minsa at 3:30 a.m. and was recovered in Denver, Colo., around 5 p.m. The semi was returned to the company. The driver has not contacted the company but is from the Colorado area. No charges are pending.

ACCIDENTS

• On May 19, at 7:19 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 700 block of East Washington Avenue. According to the report, Justin Nuckolls, Red Oak, owner of a 1992 Chevrolet C1500 pick-up, allowed his neighbor’s 13-year-old son to drive his vehicle. The juvenile turned the corner south from Washington Avenue onto 7th Street and over-corrected, striking a legally parked 1984 GMC C1500 pick-up owned by James Collins, Red Oak. There was about $1,500 damage to the Collins vehicle and $500 damage to the Nuckolls vehicle. The juvenile was cited for no valid driver’s license and Nuckolls was cited for permitting an unauthorized minor to drive.

• On May 20, at 3:30 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a one-vehicle accident on Oakwood Avenue by Indian Gulley. A 2000 Ford F150 pick-up owned by Wendi Wilkins, Red Oak, and driven by a 16-year-old-male, and with five passengers, was on its side in the south ditch. According to the report, the vehicle was in the turn around in Indian Gulley and began spinning around, then left the turn around and headed west on Oakwood Avenue. The vehicle accelerated, began to slide sideways, entered the ditch, and rolled over onto the passenger side. Dillon Kopiasz, 18, Red Oak, Brandon Campbell, 16, Villisca, Bryce Nennamen, Red Oak, and Brendon Nennamen, 15, Red Oak, were transported by Red Oak Rescue to Montgomery County Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. The driver was cited for reckless driving and damage to the vehicle was about $8,000, a total loss.

• On May 25, at 9:02 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Summit Street. Sue Davis, 60, Stanton, driving a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pick-up, was traveling east on Summit Street. Carter Maynes, 16, Red Oak, driving a 2017 Ford F150 pick-up, was traveling south from the stop sign on Eastern Avenue when his vehicle broadsided the Davis vehicle. Damage to the Davis vehicle was about $10,000, and damage to the Maynes vehicle was about $3,000. There were no injuries, and no citations were issued.

• On May 26, at 9:19 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a single-vehicle accident in the 500 block of Main Street in Elliott. Sherry Franzen, 61, Elliott, driving a 2006 GMC Envoy, was travelling west on Main Street when her vehicle left the road, jumped the curb, struck a road sign, then crossed the road where it jumped the curb, went through two yards and struck a campaign sign. It then re-entered the road and continued to Main Street, where it was parked. Franzen was arrested for OWI first offense and held on $1,000 bond.

• On May 26, at 8:16 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident in the 700 block of Washington Avenue. Chastity McFarland, 39, Red Oak, driving a 2002 Honda CR-V LX, was traveling east on Washington Avenue and, according to the report, had the sun in her eyes. As she approached the top of the hill, another car came from the east. McFarland swerved to avoid the car and struck a legally parked 2004 Pontiac AZT belonging to Bonnie Hayes of Red Oak. No citations were issued.

• On May 26, at 9:56 a.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Miller Avenue and Reed Street. Gary Hudson, 59, Red Oak, driving a 2004 Volksgawon Beetle, was traveling east on Reed Street, stopped and then backed west to park in front of his house. Cameron Travis, 18, Red Oak, driving a 2003 Mazda Tribute owned by Angela Travis, Red Oak, was, according to the report, sitting on Reed Street and began to back west toward the Hudson vehicle. According to the report, Travis was trying to fix his radio and didn’t see Hudson’s vehicle or hear him honk his horn. The Travis vehicle backed into the Hudson vehicle, causing $2,000 in damage to the Hudson vehicle and $1,000 in damage to the Travis vehicle. No citations were issued.
