ACCIDENTS

• On April 11, at about 1:51 p.m., Red Oak Police officers investigated a two-vehicle accident at the intersection at Broadway and West Walnut Street. Shirley Grinstead, 62, driving a 2001 Buick Century, was traveling south on Broadway and Kathleen Roberts, 61, Red Oak, driving a 2016 Ford Escape, was traveling west on Walnut Street. Roberts stopped at the intersection and proceeded without the intersection being clear. The Grinstead vehicle struck the Roberts vehicle. Damage to the Grinstead vehicle was estimated at $3,000, a total loss, while damage to the Roberts vehicle was about $5,000. There were no injuries. Roberts was cited for failure to obey stop sign. 

On April 12, at about 6:54 p.m., Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a single-vehicle accident 1/8 mile west of Elliott on Highway 48. Christopher Anderson, 49, Portsmouth, Iowa, driving a 2008 GMC Sierra which was pulling a flatbed trailer carrying a 1965 Farmall tractor, was traveling west. The trailer began to fishtail, causing the vehicle to spin 180 degrees. The trailer entered the north ditch and overturned. Damage to the Sierra is estimated at $8,000 and damage to the trailer is estimated at $1,000, while damage to the tractor is about $4,000. No citations were issued, and no injuries were reported at the time of the accident.
