Race Weekend: August 27

Before we preview this weekend's races. We should note that Blain Peterson, the winner of the Aug. 20 Chat Mobility hobby stock feature race, was disqualified.

Peterson was disqualified after a post-race inspection found that the GM seal bolts on his hobby stock had been tampered with, making the motor illegal, according to the Adams County Speedway website.

Along with the disqualification, Peterson will be fined and suspended, but that will be determined later. Joe Murphy was declared the winner of the new winner of the race.

There were three B-mod motors also under investigation, but no issues of tampering came up during the independent examinations.

Here's a look at what's taking place at the race track this weekend.

At the Adams County Speedway, it will be Poet Biorefining Modified King of the Hill races. Matt McAtee holds a six-point lead over Jeremy Purdy in the Chat Mobility Hobby Stocks standings. Both races moved into the top three following Peterson's disqualification.

In the Northland Oil Pro Stock series, Jason Rold continues to increase his lead in the point standings over Tony Hardisty. Rold finished third last week, while Hardisty placed 15th.

Bill Gibson of Knoxville maintains his lead in the Stalker Chevrolet B-Mods series after picking up his sixth win of the season, last Saturday. Gibson (306), leads over Peterson, as well as Red Oak's Jerod Weston. Weston is six points behind Peterson's second place spot.

JC Wyman and Paul Glendenning are tied for first in the Coors Light Late Models series. Both racers have 349 points, with Justin Zeitner just 10 points behind in third place. Wyman picked up his first win of the season, last Saturday.

Finally, in the Poet Biorefining Modifieds series, the top three racers are separated by two points. Dennis Elliott (381), leads Kirby Stiens (380) and Jeff James (379). Stiens won last week's race, with Elliott taking second to close the gap in the points race. James finished fifth in the same race.

HARLAN — At the Shelby County Speedway, Saturday night is Fan With A Can night. Make a food pantry donation and get $1 off a grandstand ticket.

In the Late Model series, Jay Stewart (629) holds a four-point lead over Al Zeitner. Stewart's win last Saturday added two points to his lead over Zeitner.

Keith Knop (608) has a 15 point lead over Mike Nichols in the Stock Car series. Nichols picked up points on Knop with his second place finish, last Saturday.

Brandon Monson cushioned his lead in the Modified Series with last Saturday's win. Monson has 560 points for the season, 19 more than Scott Carlson, who finished 11th last Saturday.

Shannon Anderson (612) holds a 66 point lead in the Hobby Stock series over Kurt Hansen. Anderson picked up an extra point on Hansen with his win, last Saturday.

Glenwood's Jesse Sobbing (621) has a 33 point lead in the N. Sport Mod series over Jonathan Plowman. Sobbing won last week, with Plowman finishing third.
