A Council Bluffs man is in custody following a pursuit through two counties Friday morning, Oct. 11.

Red Oak Police Chief Justin Rhamy reported 27-year-old Dakota Allen Culbertson of Council Bluffs was arrested following a pursuit that started and ended in Montgomery County, but touched into Page County briefly.

A Red Oak police department press release states the incident began when officers spotted a 2005 Yamaha Venture motorcycle rolling through a stop sign at the intersection of 3rd and Nuckolls streets at around 7:45 a.m. Officers began to follow the motorcycle and watched it run the stop sign at 3rd and Market Streets in Red Oak. When officers initiated a traffic stop, the motorcycle operator failed to yield and the pursuit began. From 2nd Street to Ohio Street, the pursuit continued on Highway 48 southbound.

Several attempts were made to stop the motorcycle, including rolling roadblocks and boxing it in, as the pursuit went to just north of the Russell Corner, in Page County, and then northbound again on Highway 48 toward Red Oak.

Once back inside the city limits on Broadway, the pursuit continued to Highway 34, where it headed east until the intersection of Highway 34 and Q Avenue east of Stanton. The motorcyclist lost control and dumped the cycle in the ditch. He then fled on foot to the south, where he ran to a residence, 2258 Q Ave., and forced entry into the residence, which was unoccupied.

Inside the home, Culbertson hid in a closet, where he was apprehended by officers and taken into custody.

He was charged with possession of stolen property--a class D felony, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver--a class B felony, 2nd degree criminal mischief--a class D felony, eluding--a class D felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia--a serious misdemeanor. Culbertson is also wanted on Council Bluffs warrants for 2nd degree theft, and Nebraska warrants for narcotics violations. Authorities later discovered the motorcycle Culbertson was riding was reported stolen from Council Bluffs on Oct. 6. He is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $50,000 bond. Sheriff’s offices from Montgomery, Fremont, Adams and Page Counties assisted Red Oak Police in the pursuit.
