Dorothy White, 97, a resident of Montgomery County for 95 years before moving to Overland Park, Kan., recently had one of her paintings selected and sold by auction with the proceeds benefiting the Greater Kansas City Alzheimer’s Association. Dorothy participates in the ”Memories in the Making” art class offered by volunteers who come to the assisted living center where she resides.
Every year the Alzheimer’s Association selects paintings produced by residents at various centers throughout the Kansas City area to be sold at a gala open to the public. Dorothy’s painting was a puppy and kitten entitled “Cautious Kiss”.
Out of the 47 paintings (33 in the silent auction and 14 in the live auction), Dorothy’s was placed in the live auction, and was sold for $1,000. Over $150,000 was raised at this event.
