Phillip Straight, 76
Phillip N. Straight, 76, Merrimack, N.H., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Phillip Straight was born in Emerson, son of Ivan and Zelma Straight. Phil was raised and educated in Iowa and received his civil engineering degree in 1992. He was also a member of the Army National Guard and later went on to work and retire from the state of Iowa Soil Conservation reclaiming mines. He was a state representative for Merrimack for two terms.
In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and sharing his love of country music and talking politics to anyone who would dare to listen. He was passionate about serving in his community, his state and his country.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Harrington of 20 years. Phil will also be deeply missed by his daughter, Brenda Sale and her husband Jamie, and their children Morgan, Katelyn, and Nolan; son, PJ Comeau and his wife Christine and their children Brayden Comeau, Julia Bell, Alexis Bell; daughter, Michele deBettencourt and her husband Antone III and their children Taylor, Sydney, Dylan; stepsons Wes Sowers and his wife Allison; Dusty Sowers and his wife Gaby; brother Larry Straight and sister Dolores Elkins.
Phil was predeceased by his siblings, Leo, Dale, Kenny, and Dorothy Groves.
Visitation was Friday Oct. 28, at the Rivet Funeral Home in Merrimack. A graveside service was held privately with the family. A Celebration of Life will be held in Iowa at a later date.
