Neva Slump, 90
Neva Ann Slump, 90, Henderson, passed away Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society in Red Oak.
Neva was born May 22, 1933 in Oakland, the daughter of Chet and Twyla (Hummel) Yeager. She was raised on a farm near Emerson and graduated from Emerson High School in 1951.
Neva was united in marriage to DeLaine Slump on Feb. 21, 1952. Four children were born to this union, Merrill, Darry, Debbie, and Chet. DeLaine and Neva lived on a
farm near Henderson, where Neva was an upstanding homemaker, raising her children and working on the farm alongside DeLaine enduring any work that needed to be done.
Neva was a longtime member and faithful servant of the Henderson Christian Church where she helped with Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Wednesday night worship and served
on countless committees. She belonged to numerous ladies clubs where she enjoyed camaraderie with many lifelong friends. Neva was an accomplished seamstress, gardener, decorator, and was known for her delicious
homemade meals and baked goodies. There was always an open invitation for anyone to take a seat at Neva’s dining table.
Neva loved spending time with DeLaine at their favorite vacation spot, Lake of the Ozarks, where they hosted family and countless friends with boat rides, card games, and food galore for many years. Spending
time with family and friends was dearest to Neva’s heart as she cherished the moments they spent with her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Chet and Twyla Yeager: father-in-law, Merrill Slump; mother-inlaw, Fern Slump Rogers; daughter-in-law, Judy Slump; brother, Wilbur Yeager; sisters-in-law, Jackie Yeager,
Lola Yeager, and Carole Slump; and brothers-in-law, Jack Slump and Richard Slump.
Survivors include her husband, DeLaine Slump of Henderson; children, Merrill Slump and special friend Sharon Salvo of Henderson, Darry Slump and wife Mary of Red Oak, Debbie Deskin and husband Doug
of Urbandale, and Chet Slump and wife Kelly of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren, Tracy McCormick and husband Matt of Urbandale; Tricia Sciorrotta and husband Andrew of Cumming; Amy DePenning and husband Corey of Urbandale; Jamie Slump of Iowa City; Jeff Slump and wife Krystle of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jacob Deskin and wife Maria of West Des Moines; Alyssa Benjamin and husband Thomas of Grimes; Matt Slump of
Greenville, S.C.; and Katherine Slump of New York City, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren, Luke McCormick, Gianna and Isabella Sciorrotta, Brady and Darby DePenning, Nora, Henry and Vivienne Slump and Hayden
Deskin; brothers, Norm Yeager of Red Oak, and Keith Yeager and special friend Carol Weber of Red Oak; sister-in-law, Lucy Yeager of Red Oak; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A celebration of life funeral was held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at the Henderson Christian Church in Henderson. Burial was at the Farm Creek Cemetery at Henderson. Memorials are suggested to the Henderson Christian Church, the Indian Creek Museum, or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
