Monte Batten, 70

Monte Glen Batten, 70, Willard, Mo., passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025, at Cox South Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Monte was born in Moberly, Mo., to Glen Owen Batten and Marjorie May Rutledge on Sept. 29, 1954. He was the oldest of four rowdy boys. He graduated from Red Oak High School, Red Oak, and he went on to attend college at SMSU in Springfield, Mo. Monte worked for AAMP of America for close to 30 years, and he was involved in the NRA and HOG.
On Nov. 29, 1980, Monte married the love of his life, Pamela Dennise Shafer, and to this union was born their two children, Jennifer Leigh and Melissa Nicole.
Monte was preceded in death by his father, Glen Batten; his mother, Marjorie Anderson and her husband, Clifford; his younger brother Mark; his most constant companion, his cat, Sir “Winston” Churchill; and many other pets that were a part of his family.
Monte is survived by his loving wife, Pam; daughters, Jennifer (Jordan) Johnson of Red Oak, and Melissa (Chase) Smith of Republic, Mo.; grandchildren, Aubrey, Evelyn, Logan, and Sullivan, as well as numerous family and friends.
Monte had many hobbies: he enjoyed many years of hunting with family and friends, and his bird dogs, that he had trained. Monte also loved to fish with his children and grandchildren. He loved to ride his motorcycle, and he and Pam frequently enjoyed their rides together. Monte and Pam accomplished their dream of building a home together in the country, where they raised their girls. They had a large garden that was often shared with others. Their home was frequently filled with guests, as they both enjoyed the laughter that friends and family would bring. That home was commonly referred to as “The Batten Inn.” Monte could frequently be found on the front porch in his rocking chair, enjoying conversations with friends. If you knew Monte, you know he never knew a stranger and always loved to meet new people. His heart was so big that it was not unusual for those new persons to grow to become a part of his family. To know him was to know a generosity like no other. Monte will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date with one being in Willard, Mo., and one in Red Oak.
