Marvin Adams, 89

Marvin Lee Adams, 89, Emerson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024, at Arlington Place in Red Oak.
Marvin was born Nov. 6, 1934, near Henderson, the son of Harold and Barbara (Chapman) Adams. He graduated from Henderson High School in 1952 and was a farm hand before entering the U.S. Navy in 1956. He worked various jobs before starting a 60-year long career with Viner Trucking in Emerson, where he was the mechanic. Marvin was united in marriage to Mary Jane Lewis on Oct.2, 1956, in Red Oak. They lived most of their married life in Emerson. Marvin was a member of the Emerson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association for many years.
His hobbies included racing micro-midgets, traveling, tinkering with his tractors, going to the casinos, and attending school sporting events. He and Mary Jane were awarded “Fans of the Year” more than once. His true passion was fixing things.
Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Garvin Adams and wife Mary Ellen, and Gerald Adams; and sister, Ardis Stenger and husband Jim.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Adams of Red Oak; sons, Jerry Adams and wife Cathy of Elliott; Bob Adams and wife Julie of Clive; and Rich Adams of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Emily King of Des Moines, and Ian Adams and fiancé Reid of Waukee; great-granddaughter, Rebekah King; brother-in-law, David Lewis and wife Linda of Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Vrbka of Glenwood; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department or the Indian Creek Museum.
