Kenneth Walker, 93

Kenneth LaVern Walker, 93, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sept. 27, 2022, with family by his side.
He was born Nov. 6, 1928, at home on the family farm near Red Oak. Kenneth served his country in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Navy Reserve, U.S. Army Ready Reserve and the Army National Guard. In total he served 12 years, four months and 15 days.
Kenneth’s children, are Clinton Walker of Wilber By The Sea, Fla.; Ken D. Walker (Liz) of Keystone Heights Fla.; Sheryl Petroff (Lenin) of Bay City, Mich.; Julie Davison (David) of Council Bluffs; and Wendy Walker of Johnston. He was a grandfather to eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ann (Lewis) Walker, originally from Elliott.
Kenneth resided in Red Oak for most of his life, where he continued farming the family’s Century Old Farm, even winning Montgomery County Conservationist of the Year. He also owned his own construction company, building homes in Red Oak and the surrounding area. He worked many professions during his life, including plumber, HVAC technician, electrician, and finally retired from the U.S. Postal Service almost 30 years ago.
His family and friends will tell you he knew how to do just about everything and did it well. He wasn’t afraid to tackle any project and was admired by so many for his amazing work ethic and dedication. He loved all-you-can-eat buffets and could consume more than anyone else at the table. This was undoubtedly due to how hard he worked. But what people will remember most about him is the love and care he had for his family. He was a mentor, teacher, friend and moral compass not only for his family, but for all who knew him.
A celebration of life is currently being planned for next spring.
