Kenneth Lindell, 89

Kenneth L. Lindell, 89, Urbandale, formerly of Red Oak, passed away Friday, Oct. 28, 2022, at the Iowa Methodist Hospital, Des Moines.
Kenneth Lee Lindell, the son of Bernard and Inez (Axelson) Lindell, was born Aug. 3, 1933, at Essex. Kenneth was born and raised on a farm in the Essex area. He graduated from Essex High School and on Sept. 14, 1953, entered the U.S. Army. He served as a paratrooper until his honorable discharge on Sept. 13, 1955.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Delores Anderson on June 20, 1954, in Essex. He attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1956, graduating in 1957. Kenneth began his funeral service career for Raynor Funeral Home, Glenwood, in 1958. In 1959, they moved to Harlan to work with the Pauley Funeral Home. In 1966, the family moved to Red Oak, where Kenneth started with the Sellergren Funeral Home. In January of 1968, the Lindells purchased the funeral home and retired in January of 1991.
While in Red Oak, Kenneth was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge #1304, Masonic Lodge #162, Order of Eastern Star Lodge #57, American Legion Post #67, Rotary Club, Montgomery County Court of Honor, Red Oak Country Club, and served many years as a Red Oak volunteer firefighter. He also volunteered with many other local events and organizations, too. Kenneth was a past member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association and National Selected Morticians. He enjoyed golfing and cheering for the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team, along with being a cat lover. During their retirement years, Kenneth and Delores enjoyed winters in Texas. They made their home in Urbandale in April of 2012.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores on Feb. 12, 2017; and brother, Curtis Lindell.
Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Karla Ralston (husband Jim) of Wickenburg, Ariz.; granddaughter, Courtney Kearney (husband Brendan) and great-granddaughters, Emmalee and Aydan Kearney of Corinth, Texas; and granddaughter, Jessica Hesse (husband Dan) of Clarksville, Tenn.; and his son, Dennis Lindell (wife Jamie) of Fairchild, Wis.; grandson, Hans Lindell (wife Rachel) and great-grandsons, Soren and Noah of Hummelston, Penn.; and granddaughter, Kristine Lindell and great-grandsons, Jacob and Therin of Urbandale; sister-in-law, Jean Lindell of Omaha, Neb.; nephew, Dan Lindell (wife Pat) of Omaha, Neb.; niece, Darci Neuzil of Dallas, Texas; great-nieces and nephews; a great-great-niece; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Red Oak. Graveside Service with Military Honors and Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Red Oak. Rev. Jennifer Yeske-Drown will officiate.
The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Red Oak Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
