Katherine "Kathy" Vandrey, 68

Katherine Elizabeth “Kathy” Vandrey, 68, of Red Oak, passed away Monday, Feb. 17, 2025, at the Clarinda Regional Health Center.  
Kathy was born on March 17, 1956, in Ann Arbor, Mich.  She was raised in Miltenberg, Germany, and moved to California in her teens.  Kathy graduated from Santa Monica High School in 1974.  She worked as a secretary at a law firm in Los Angeles and did some waitressing.  
Kathy was united in marriage to John Klinchock and one daughter was born to this union, Jamey.  She later married Daniel Schneider and two children were born to this union, Amber and Jimmy.  Over the years, Kathy lived in many places throughout the United States, moving to Red Oak more than 25 years ago.  
She was united in marriage to Paul Vandrey and they raised their granddaughter, Anna, as their daughter.  Kathy worked for many years at the Montgomery County Family YMCA.  She loved her job, loved people, and was always willing to help anyone in need.  One of her favorite things at the YMCA was when she worked at the After Prom event.  Kathy had deep faith in her Lord and Savior and attended First Covenant Church.  She also attended Walk to Emmaus several years ago.  Her hobbies included cooking, canning, crocheting, watching hockey and spending time with her grandkids.  
Survivors include her husband, Paul Vandrey of Red Oak; children, Jamey Acosta of Chino, Calif.; Amber Duncan of Omaha, Neb.; Jimmy Schneider of Omaha, Neb.; and Anna Vandrey (Pacey Bingham) of Red Oak; grandchildren, Jaden and Shea Acosta and Wesley and Gabbie Schneider; great-grandchildren, William and Wynter Bingham; step-children, Brenda Carlson of Council Bluffs; step-grandchildren, Zachary, Bryce, Wyatt, Kristian, Asa, and Brianna; sisters-in-law, Valerie Vandrey of Grimes, Calif.,  and Linda Blackburn and husband Mark of Red Oak; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service was held Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2025, at the First Covenant Church. Memorials are suggested to the Christ’s Cupboard Food Pantry or the Kathy Vandrey Scholarship at the YMCA.
