John Simmonds, 72
John William Simmonds, 72, Red Oak, passed away Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, at his home.
John was born Sept. 9, 1950, in Red Oak, the son of James R. and June E. (Springer) Simmonds. He was raised in Emerson and graduated from Nishna Valley High School in 1969.
John was united in marriage to Naomi Stites on Jan. 9, 1971, in Red Oak. They lived all of their married life in Red Oak. Over the years, John had many jobs, including working at D & L, Henningsen Construction, and the Green Tree Company.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, target shooting, camping, and riding horses. He was a true outdoorsman. John also loved to sing and was known to be quite a comedian. He had a great sense of humor. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Linda Hietbrink and Virginia Malmquist; and son-in-law, Darrin Snow.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Simmonds of Red Oak; children, Leigh Pfeiffer and husband Tim of Red Oak; Saundra Hale and husband Allen of Red Oak; and Ronn Simmonds and wife Amanda of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Jake Snow and wife Brandi of Stanton; Jessie Bumsted and husband Cole of Oceanside, Calif.; Julia McDonald and husband Michael of Emerson; Phil Pfeiffer and Maranda Myers of Red Oak; Kaleb Hale and fiancée Brynn Hammond of Glenwood; Peyton Edie of Red Oak; and Hunter and Ainsleigh Simmonds of Council Bluffs; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Deacon, Annaleigh, Lane, Clarke, Jamie, and Leon; brothers and sisters, Ron Simmonds and wife Deloris of Evanston, Wyo.; Roger Simmonds and wife Collette of Washougal, Wash.; David Simmonds and wife Libby of Junction City, Ky.; Mike Simmonds and wife Cindy of Shenandoah; Tom Simmonds and wife Debra of Junction City, Ky.; Saundra Simmonds of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Rita Renz and husband Dave of Colorado Springs, Colo.; mother-in-law, Erma Lee Stites of Council Bluffs; brothers-in-law, Larry Hietbrink of Shenandoah; and Alvin Stites and wife Rolleen of LaCygn, Kan.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023, at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
