Jerry Bates, 82

Jerry Donald Bates, 82, Grant, passed away Monday, Sept. 4, 2023, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Neb.
Jerry was born Oct. 9, 1940, in Montgomery County, the son of Donald and Elsie (Weseen) Bates. He graduated from Elliott High School and served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962.
Jerry was united in marriage to Diane Seastrom on April 14, 1963, in Red Oak. They lived many years on the farm before moving to Grant, where they have lived for many years. Jerry farmed all of his life.
Preceding him in death were his parents; infant brother, Gary Bates; sister, Shirley Gerdes; and sister-in-law, Cindy Seastrom.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Bates of Grant; daughters, Debra James of Dallas, Texas; and Dana Bates and husband Charlie Carson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Chaz, Dylan, and Jack Carson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; siblings, Barb Schroeder and husband Ron of Lyman; James Bates and wife Sandy of Stanton; and Joanne Vogliardo and husband Mike of Polk City; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
