Jennifer Walters, 66

Jennifer Verlea Walters, 66, passed away on Sept. 24, 2024, with her two children by her side.
The daughter of Dewey and Verlea (Sands) Carpenter, Jennifer was born on Dec. 21, 1957, in Red Oak. Jennifer grew up in Red Oak with her parents and four siblings. On Sept. 11,1982, Jennifer united in marriage with Harry Gustuff Walters. Together they had two children, Chancy and Haylee.
Jennifer spent many years working at Bunn O’Matic and The Windrow in Creston before following her heart to open her own business, Walters Custom Signs and Screens. She loved being connected to the community and enjoyed working together with Harry.
Jennifer treasured every moment with Chancy and Haylee and inspired them to dream – and to dream big! She was their biggest champion and their rock. She was a loving mother to not only Chancy and Haylee, but also to Karie, Neil and Jennifer, whom Harry had from a previous marriage. She shared lots of love and spoiled (the heck out of) all that also knew her as “Grandma Jenny”. When her grandchildren were in the home - no rules applied.
Cooking for others brought great joy to her life. She hosted the Walters’ family Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays yearly, not only hosting for her family, but also for friends and strangers who didn’t have anywhere else to go. For anyone that visited her home, she was likely to pull you into the kitchen and whip up a quick snack or meal for you. She also enjoyed nature, golfing, gardening, bowling, going to concerts, and movies. What she loved the most was spending time with family and friends on her famous front porch. Sipping her morning coffee and winding the day down watching the birds with Harry.
Jennifer is preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents, Dewey and Verlea; brothers, John and Jack Carpenter; and stepson, Neil Walters.
And is survived by her children,  Chancy (Jess) Walters, Haylee (Nick) Alley, Karie Walters and Jennifer (Jon) Menzner; her grandchildren, Julian and Shaeina Allison, Harry, Hayden, and Noble Walters, Parsons and Margo Menzner; her great-grandchildren, Matthew and Elizabeth Maxfield; honorary grandchildren:  Indie, Michael and Libby Sorenson, Marshall Long and Lucy Paulus, Brenten, Blake, and Bently Bergstrom; brothers:  Dewy and Jay (Robbie) Carpenter; along with other loved ones.
Celebration of Life services were Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center.  Rev. Mary O’Riley officiated. Jennifer was cremated and will be laid to rest in Red Oak at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.  Memories and condolences can be shared online at pearsonfuneralhomes.com.
