Jane Shearer, 87
Jane Evelyna Shearer, 87, of Red Oak, formerly of Elliott, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.
Jane was born March 4, 1936, in Red Oak, the daughter of Maurice “Dick” and Hazel (Sterrett) Sheets. She was raised in Red Oak, where she graduated high school.
Jane was united in marriage to Robert L. Shearer on March 18, 1956, in Red Oak. They lived in the Grant-Elliott area all of their married life.
When her family was raised, Jane went back to work outside the home. She worked as a secretary for two different lawyers and two executives at Thos. D. Murphy Co. She later was a grain merchandiser for many years at the Stennett Elevator before going back to the Thos. D. Murphy Co. where she retired in 2001. Jane went back to work part-time for Phoenix Promotional Products retiring again in 2010.
She was a past member of the Order of Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Elliott library board. Currently, she was a member of Stratton United Methodist Church, 15-20 Year Club at Thos. D. Murphy Co., a hospital volunteer, a board member of Acorn Acres Housing Authority where she has resided since 2009, and served on the Acorn Acres Resident Council Board. She was quite artistic and enjoyed doing all kinds of crafts including her most recent project of diamond painting. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, reading, and researching the family genealogy.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Robert L. Shearer; sons, Richard Shearer and Rob Shearer; grandsons, Travis Shearer and David Daugherty; brothers, Edward Sheets and Maurice Sheets; and sisters, Joan Slump and Judith Sheets.
Survivors include her children, Bill Shearer of Atlantic, Russ Shearer of Griswold, Steve Shearer of Manson, Julia Daugherty of Breda, and Jeff Shearer of Red Oak; grandchildren, Megan Shook, Tyler Shearer, Krystal Shearer, Cassandra Daugherty, Robert Daugherty, and Caiti Williamson and husband Nic; great-grandchildren, Hailey Binns, Nicholas Williamson II, Travis Shearer, and Arynn Shearer; brother-in-law, Robert Fisher of Fountain, Fla.; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at the Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at a later date at the Hillside Cemetery in Elliott. Memorials are suggested to the Acorn Acres Resident Council Activity Fund.
