James "Tom" Solt, 69

James Thomas “Tom” Solt, 69, Villisca, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023, at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak.
Tom was born June 11, 1954, in Carroll, the son of Wilford Mervil and Violet Jean (Neighbors) Solt. He graduated from Villisca High School in 1972 and lived most of his life in Villisca.
He was united in marriage to Michelle Taylor in 1982 in Villisca. Over the years, Tom worked construction and was a talented carpenter, worked at D & L, which became ROMECH, and drove a truck over the road before starting with the Red Oak Community Schools as a bus driver. He was very active in Boy Scouts, the Gun Club, Shooting Sports, and enjoyed shooting, fishing, camping, making his own ammo, and carpentry.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Pam Guenther and Ardith Branan; and brother, Tim Solt.
Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Solt of Villisca; Christina Solt of Red Oak; and Heather Orr and husband Glenn of Creston; grandchildren, Kara Sego and Brayden Sego of Red Oak; and Kimberly Hobbs and husband Michael, Hallie Orr, Jenna Orr, and Brett Orr all of Creston; brother, Steve Solt of Red Oak; sisters-in-law, Donna Solt of Fayetteville, N.C.; Debbie LaFollette and husband Marty of Red Oak; and Theresa Kielty and husband Todd of Omaha, Neb.; brothers-in-law, Larry Branan of Clarinda; Glenn Guenther of Des Moines; and Larry Taylor and wife Georgia of Villisca; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, 2023, at the Red Oak Community School District Bus Barn at 604 S. Broadway, with a time of lunch and fellowship to follow. Memorials are suggested to the Boy Scout Troop 86 or the Montgomery County Shooting Sports Club.
