Jim was born Oct. 14, 1969, in Red Oak, the son of Jerry and Karon (Scotton) Stanley. He was raised in Red Oak and graduated from Red Oak Community High School in 1988. Jim attended Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny where he learned the art of upholstery. While in college, he worked for Al’s Downtown Auto Upholstery in Des Moines.
He was united in marriage to Julie Franzen on March 12, 1994, in Stanton. They made their home in Red Oak. Jim worked for Randy’s Upholstery in Council Bluffs and Bredin’s, The Studio in Omaha, Neb., for many years before starting Stanley’s Upholstery in Red Oak.
Jim’s passion was cars and he was quite proud of the 1969 Chevrolet Caprice he bought when he was 16 years old. He showed that car in many shows throughout the years. He also loved going to swap meets, but his favorite pastime was playing with his granddaughter, Hadley.
Preceding him in death were his in-laws, Swanie and Lois Franzen; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Bashaw and Angela Stanley.
