Glen Nelson, 87
Glen Darrell Nelson, 87, Emerson, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2022, at CHI Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb.
Glen was born Dec. 17, 1935, in Essex, the son of Oliver and Thelma (Rea) Nelson. He was raised in Page and Montgomery Counties, attending country school near Red Oak. Glen joined the U.S. Navy at a very young age, serving from 1953 and retiring in 1973. He served many different places throughout the years and was a Korea and Vietnam veteran.
Glen was discharged in 1973 and was united in marriage to Barbara Barrett on May 4, 1974, in Red Oak. They lived all of their married life in the Emerson area. He drove truck for many years, starting his career with Kinnison Trucking and retiring from Southwest Iowa Rock and Sand. Glen was a longtime member of the Emerson American Legion, Emerson Masonic Lodge, Classy Chassis Car Club, and Red Oak Eagles Lodge. Glen enjoyed going to tractor pulls, cars shows and truly loved driving trucks. He also enjoyed the time he spent with family, especially the grandkids and his great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Robert “Red” Nelson and his wife Gladys.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Nelson of Emerson; daughters, Sabrina Blazer and husband Micheal of North Lake, Texas; and Cheyenne Peterson of Red Oak; grandchildren, Clayton Yoshifuku of Denton, Texas; Bailey Hankins of Red Oak; and Trinity Peterson of Omaha, Neb.; great-granddaughter, Cambrie; brother, Carol Nelson and wife Elsie of Owatonna, Minn.; brother-in-law, Cecil Barrett of Myrtle Beach, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Peggy Howe and husband Jeff of Sebastian, Fla.; and Brenda Rose of North Hampton, Penn.; nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
No services will be held at this time. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Nelson-Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel is assisting the family with cremation services.
