George Karwal, 64

George Earl Karwal, 64, died at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023, with his family by his side.
George Karwal, the son of Paul and Vivian (Negly) Karwal, was born Aug. 13, 1958, in Council Bluffs.  George lived his whole life on a farm near Grant.  He went to elementary school in Grant and Elliott.  He graduated from Griswold High School with the class of 1976.  George was united in marriage to Patricia Croxell on Nov. 14, 1981.  To this union, one son was born.
George will be remembered for his love for family and friends of all ages.  He believed there was no place like the farm.  He was a hard worker, good neighbor, and a mentor to many of the younger generations.  George always believed you should lend a helping hand to someone in need.
Oftentimes George could be heard singing Billy Joel, John Denver, or something country, while working around the farm.
George will be remembered for his tough guy image, gentle soul, his humor, energy, and for his generosity.  Griswold coaches, wrestlers, and fans of 1976 will remember him for his little “wink” before he pinned his opponents.
In the last year of life, George will be remembered for his strength, attitude, and grit in battling pancreatic cancer.  Even in his illness, he continued to help others.  He carried his faith in his heart.
Preceding him in death were his father Paul Karwal; and his grandparents, Roy and Mallie Negly and George and Marie Karwal.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Karwal of Elliott; his son, Kirby Karwal and wife Alyssa of Elliott; granddaughter, Vivian Karwal of Elliott; mother, Vivian Karwal of Villisca; brothers, Steven Karwal and wife Delores of Nevada, Mo.; Bryan Karwal and wife Debbie of Elliott; Don Karwal and wife Janna of Elliott; sister, Debra Dvorak and husband Brian of Spencer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ron and Dorothy Croxell of Griswold; brothers-in-law, Brian Croxell of Griswold, and Mike Croxell and wife Kelly of Griswold; special friends, Greg Vetter of Elliott, and Kyle Kirchhoff and wife Maggie of Griswold; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
A celebration of life visitation will be on Saturday March 4, 2023, at the Griswold Community Building from 2-5 p.m.  A memorial fund is being established in George’s name.
Rieken Duhn Funeral Home in Griswold is assisting the family.
