Eloise Brower, 103

Eloise M. Brower, 103, Red Oak, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at Arlington Place, Red Oak.
Eloise Marie Brower, the daughter of Harry and Lola (Whipple) Graham, was born Aug. 30, 1920, west of Lewis. During Eloise’s upbringing her family moved 14 times before settling in Red Oak. In 1938, she graduated from Red Oak High School.
Eloise was united in marriage to Lloyd Brower on July 10, 1938, at Kingston, Mo., and they made their home in Red Oak. Eloise was a very active and social person. She played softball on the Red Oak ladies town team and was an avid Bridge player. Eloise learned the game when she was 12 years old and later in life, would play at least four times a week. Lloyd enjoyed growing a large garden every summer and Eloise canned all the vegetables their garden produced.
Another warm weather activity she enjoyed was golf. Eloise loved playing golf in Red Oak, and at Lake Havasu, Ariz., where she spent winters for 20 years. After the age of 70, she even sank a hole-in-one, four times! Eloise loved to read, and was quite creative, knitting afghans, quilting blankets, and was the artist of many paintings. She treasured her family dearly and loved spending time playing games with the grandchildren.
Eloise was an active member of the First Christian Church teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir, and was on the planning committee when building the new church. Eloise served on the board for the Iowa Watercolor Association, was a member of the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, where she helped with the annual ball each year, and was an election poll worker for years.
Eloise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd on March 5, 1989; daughter, Sherry Henneman; an infant granddaughter, Christa; two brothers, Oscar and Raymond; and sister, Rosemary Riggs.
Eloise is survived by her son, Gary (Diane) Brower of Red Oak; four grandchildren, Scott (Ruth) Henneman of Omaha, Neb.; Greg (Shelle) Brower of Red Oak; Kipp Brower and girlfriend, Kristy Emmons of Panora; and Elizabeth (Wyatt) Jans of West Des Moines; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah (Tyler) Willson, Dylan (Timaree) Henneman, Zachery Brower, Ashley Brower, Jacob Brower, Alec Jans and Eva Jans; and five great-great-grandchildren, Claire Henneman, Leah Henneman, Dane Henneman, Lillian Willson and Elise Willson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
May God bless her memory and give strength to those who mourn.
